Generic Clari*tin: My New Crack

I’ve noticed my readership is down.  Bwa-ha-ha-ha!  You know I can’t possibly be serious!  I just wanted to sound literary and important for a quick moment.  Did it work?

I’ve been absent from here, not really knowing what to write about.  All the usual is still happening…the kids fight a lot, Mike plays golf more, I still feel like I live at the gym, another freaking bladder infection!!  Same old crap.  I’ve spoken to my doctor again and she believes I don’t drink nearly enough water.  And I completely agree.  So in an effort to hydrate more efficiently I do hereby vow to carry water with me wherever I go.

It’s 5.29am on Thursday and I am awake for the day.  I had to take another 24 hour generic Clari*tin yesterday and I have a feeling it jolts me into complete alertness after 8 hours.  But seriously, I’d rather be awake at this time than the way I was yesterday before taking the meds!

The boys and I had just come home from getting some ice cream.  We sat outside, and all seemed well, even with the added drippage and stickiness that comes with little boys and ice cream.  As soon as we got home, my whole body just started to ITCH.  It was weird.  My nose became instantly stuffed up, I was ready to tear out my eyeballs, and my stomach felt icky too…although I’m not sure that was an allergic reaction to anything…I seriously could not get my watch off or my contacts out quickly enough.  I changed clothes and decided to take the allergy medicine despite the fact that the last time I took it, I felt felt all hopped up on um, crack maybe, or perhaps it was more of a symptom of withdrawal from crack.  I haven’t taken crack, but I sometimes talk like I have!!

The allergy meds kicked in thank gawd, but now I’m awake, and it is much too early to be awake.  I do see future opportunities for napping…we’re leaving today to head to the in-laws in Nicholasville, KY.  It’s about a 6 hour drive, and I get to not drive!  I’m looking forward to the trip!

Am I babbling?

I’m done for now, although I think I’ve just come up with a few more ideas for more blogs.

Hmmmm, perhaps this “hopped up” feeling isn’t so bad.  I wonder what else I can get done before the kids wake up!

What’s It All About?

December 20, 2008 outspokenandunderpaid 3 comments

I’m kicking myself after realizing that I missed the opportunity to ask for some gifts that I have been wanting for a while…but isn’t that how it works?  People ask what’s on your list for Christmas and you blurt out a few things that you want, but they’re not the things that you realize much later would have been even better.  Oh well!  It’s not about the gifts!!  That’s what we keep telling ourselves anyway!

And you know what?  It’s not about the gifts.  It’s about the booze, and the cookies, and all the homemade chocolates you can shove into your pie hole before it’s time to leave.  So now you know what I’ll be doing this holiday.

This is my last post until after Christmas.  We start our travel today and return home in one week.  We’ll begin in Noblesville visiting some good friends, then we’ll head to Cincinnati, and then onto Lexington, back to Cincinnati, and then back to Lexington!

So, have a great holiday season, be it Christmas, Hanukah, Kwaanza, Christmakah, Festivus or whatever else there is to celebrate.  Enjoy your time with your precious peeps and I’ll catch you on the flip side!

Peace Out!

Weekend in Review

The lights, the music, the dancing!!

It all came together to create an amazing show! Gina and I traveled to Chicago, by train, to see the tour of the So You Think You Can Dance dancers. And it was wonderful. Although we were disappointed to learn that Katie was unable to dance due to an injury. She did however join Joshua for one of their best performances…and it was worth it.

The rest of the weekend was enjoyable as well. We discovered a very cool little bar called the Reagle Beagle! Sound familiar anyone?!?! For those of you watched Three’s Company, you will recall that the Reagle Beagle was the little bar downstairs from Jack, Janet, and Chrisy’s apartment. We shared a great pizza and some amazing puffy little breadsticks, and it was really affordable as well. We even made it back to the hotel in time for the complimentary, yes I said complimentary happy hour!!

We headed back on Saturday, in time to catch up with Mike and the boys at the school bonfire. It was heart-warming to see all the families gathering together to celebrate the season. McKade and Rogan played their little hearts out. By the time we headed home, it was dark and the kids were wiped out.

Sunday was definitely a day to rest. I napped. Rogan napped. We watched football. And unfortunately, the Colts lost.

So here we are on Monday morning. And so far it’s going ok. I made a decision on Friday to start waking McKade up earlier so we he would have more to time to doddle without causing too much of a delay in our morning routine. We’ll see how that goes.

Mike is out of town for most of this week, which frankly, sucks! He is going to Minneapolis for some trade show! But we’ll survive!! Well, except for Wednesday when I scheduled flu shots for the boys. Uh-oh!

Unspoken Pressure

I have a strange feeling my friend Kjirsten and I are both waiting to see what the other blogs about regarding the past weekend.  For some reason, I’m feeling the pressure.  I wonder if she is too?!?!

In short, I traveled to Indianapolis for a wedding and was able to get in some quality time with a couple of good grad school friends.  We ate some tasty food, drank some delightful Scottish beer, and had fun reminiscing and discussing various ideas for blogs.

So, this will be my initial blog reflecting on the weekend, with much more to come.  Until then, it is Monday, and there is laundry to be done!

I WANT MY BONBONS!!

I feel lazy and slothful for admitting this but, sometimes I feel like I am just waiting for the next moment when I can sit down and not attend to the needs of others, drink a cup of coffee and eat a bonbon…even if it’s only been 10 minutes since I woke up!

It’s been a little busier lately and I can feel the effects on my brain. Like this morning, as soon as I woke up, I took a quick inventory of things to come, beginning with figuring out what day of the week it was, because I already knew it wasn’t Friday!!

On Wednesdays, I teach Silver Sneakers, and try to get in my own workout before, which means getting to the gym by about 9:15. So I think backwards from there: What do I need to get done before we leave? Well, the dog needs let out, and fed, and given her medication, I need to make coffee, find the bonbons, change Rogan’s diaper, get breakfast for Rogan, wake up McKade, yell at McKade, get McKade’s breakfast while “loudly calling” to him to hurry it up, get through breakfast and get Mack out the door, give Rogan a bath, put away 435 baskets of clean folded laundry…and I HATE putting laundry away!, pick up a bit around my now messy house, and all the while trying to figure out when I can just sit down again for a cup of coffee, and a bonbon. But, as I write this, don’t think the contradiction isn’t perfectly clear to me either: It can’t be that bad if I can find the time to write another post!! What can I say? I suppose it always seems a little worse than it really is! And isn’t there a bit of literary license I’m granted access to since I have a blog now?!?!?

This coming weekend will be a respite. I am traveling to Indianapolis for a wedding and some bonding time with several of my grad school friends. In fact, the woman getting married is the daughter of one of my friends. I don’t get the chance to spend much time with this great group of women, so I plan on enjoying it fully!! And two of us are staying at Kjirsten’s house, so I know she’s there stressing about the cleaning she needs to get done before we come to her house. That sucks!!

Oh my!! I just realized!! I had wanted to give a shout out to Lindsay, another grad school chum, for the birth of her daughter Eleanor! Sorry I took so long to publicly congratulate you Linds!! I am so happy for you and Kev and I wish you all the best.

So anyway, now that I have confessed that I have the tendencies of a lazy bum, I feel a little more motivated to get things done. Yeah right, where’s my coffee and bonbons?

October First and Counting!! + P.S.

OK people, only 16 more days until G and I head to Chicago for the So You Think You Can Dance tour. I realize this may not be your cup of tea, but me and G? We are stoked and squealing like little girls every time we discuss our plans.

In light of the current financial crisis happening in our country (read Wall Street idiots who allowed greed to navigate the murky waters of mortgage lending) we have decided to purchase tickets for the very cheap train ride between here and Chicago. And we saved a ton of money on our Friday night hotel room because G’s husband S racked up a shit load of Hilton points through work!! Not only does this cheap scenario please me, I suspect G is turning cart wheels, as she is even more cheap financially cognizant than I!!

Let’s face it, the bulk of our money spent while on this little dance get-away will be the cost of the tickets. But let me assure you, Twitch is more than worth it! OOOOOoooooooo, that KISS!!!!!

Joshua

I just wanted to give a great big shout out to Joshua for winning the hearts of millions and bringing home the title of America’s favorite dancer. I must admit however that my favorite this season was Twitch. Regardless, Joshua was well deserving. And by the way, I am referring to So You Think You Can Dance for those of you who happen to be somehow untouched by this amazing televised competition of entertaining dance. It is by far, one of the best shows on T.V.

And G. and I have floor seats at the United Center in Chicago, to see the dancers do their thing on tour!! Here I come Twitch!!!  4 Real!!

And We’re Back!!

We are no longer missing one! If feels good to have both of the boys together again, despite their inevitable return to sibling rivalry. But, that being said, it’s wonderful to have him back. We missed him terribly, especially little brother!

Traveling is such a mixed bag. We’ve got all the pros: seeing family, doing different activities, eating fun food, maybe a bit of shopping. And then, there’s the other part, the cons: difficulty sleeping for the kids, the long drive, the bad behavior that seems to go hand in hand with ANY travel! It’s just all par for the course. Leaving feels good, but the return can feel just as good too! It’s amazing how much easier life is when you live it in your own home!
