We’re currently in the process of working to determine what is going on with McKade. He struggles at school to stay on task and remain focused long enough to get his work done. We know he’s got the brains for it, his follow through sucks the big one.
We’re trying different things to help him focus, including the addition of a small bracelet to his daily outfit that says “FOCUS” on it…it’s there as a little reminder to help him stay on task. We’ll see how that goes.
My biggest fear is that he might have something else going on…like ADD. I’m taking the steps to investigate this further but it’s a worry. I know that if we don’t, but we will, get this under control, this problem could spell out even bigger problems for my little boy. He could be thought of as lazy, or stupid, if his work goes unfinished, it could result in lower grades, teasing from others, and a lowering in self-esteem.
I’m not sure what our research will reveal, but I’m struck by the seriousness of this situation. And it’s made me think about all the kids out there that fall between the cracks because their respective issues are ignored, or go unnoticed.
